Women's Health Services

Prenatal Massage

Prenatal massage is performed primarily in a side-lying position, bolstered by pillows and props, utilizing Swedish massage techniques. Massage can improve overall prenatal health for many pregnant women, helping in hormone regulation, reduction of swelling, and improvement of nerve pain. Along with the guidance and advice of a prenatal care provider, massage therapy can be incorporated into routine prenatal care as an emotional and physical health supplement proven to improve pregnancy outcome and maternal health. Consult with your midwife or obstetrician before beginning any new therapeutic practice.

Postpartum Massage + (NEW) Pelvic Steaming

Had a baby in the last 90 days? This massage is ideal during the first 3-6 weeks postpartum for a vaginal birth or 4-8 weeks for a cesarean birth (please email us if you'd like to come in earlier). Postpartum massage aims to help in the healing process, aid in rest and stimulation of the parasympathetic nervous system, alleviate new mama pain and tension, and gently support the body’s transitions during this crucial recovery time in a woman’s health. Abdominal massage may also be incorporated to help gently realign organs and support digestion.

NEW SERVICE - Pelvic Steaming

Also known as a vaginal steam, v-steam, yoni steam, chai-yok, or bajo, pelvic steaming has been found throughout the world in the following places: South Korea, Vietnam, China, Indonesia, Cambodia, Turkey, Latvia, Sweden, Italy, Germany, Eritrea, Ghana, Kenya, South Africa, Haiti, Jamaica, Trinidad and Tobago, Suriname, Panama, Guatemala, Mexico, Navajo Nation, Palau, Papua New Guinea, and Hawaii. This traditional practice is most commonly used by midwives for postpartum care to help clear out lochia (discharge after giving birth containing blood, mucus, and uterine tissue) and aid in healing of the uterus and vaginal canal after childbirth.

Pelvic steaming also has wonderful results when used to treat problems such as cramps, heavy periods, long or short menstrual cycles, infertility, infections, fibroids, cysts, scar tissue, dryness and more.

During your visit you will first receive a 5-10 minute essential oil infused abdominal massage using Chinese, Mayan, and clinical massage techniques. A custom herb blend will be prepared for your steam based on your unique needs. You will then relax on our pelvic steam sauna, wrapped in blankets for 15-30 minutes.  We will then invite you to rest for another few minutes on our heated table.

Pelvic steam sessions are currently available with Lauren and Celine. Individual treatment plans may vary. After requesting an appointment via email, you will receive a detailed questionnaire to determine your appropriate steam plan and the best timing for your appointment. Most sessions will be scheduled 3-5 before the start of your period. Pelvic steaming is not appropriate during pregnancy, while menstruating, or if you have an IUD.

To book a session or ask a question, email us at info@noevalleyintegrativebodywork. Pelvic steaming may be added to a 60 minute postpartum massage session when booking online.
